Y.A. Liu has been recognized by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers for his work with students.

Liu, a Virginia Tech Alumni Distinguished professor and the Frank C. Vilbrandt Endowed Professor of Chemical Engineering, won the 2021 Outstanding Student Chapter Advisor Award at a recent organizational meeting in Boston.

Awardees are selected by the Student Chapter Committee based on nominations from student chapters and endorsements from department chairs.

Liu was recognized for his sustained dedication and excellence as the faculty advisor to the AIChE Student Chapter at Virginia Tech, a position he has held since 1995.

The Virginia Tech Student Chapter has won the Outstanding Student Chapter Award for three consecutive years, from 2019 to 2021.

AIChE is the world’s largest chemical engineering professional organization with 72,000 members in 110 countries and student chapters at 371 universities in 50 countries.
