How You Can Help
The Virginia Tech Department of Chemical Engineering is highly regarded in the chemical engineering community, and we remain committed to providing our students with a world-class education and conducting innovative research that can impact the Commonwealth, the nation and the world. Our undergraduate students are highly sought after for entry-level opportunities in industry. In 2014, the department relocated to Goodwin Hall providing our faculty and students with a new, state-of-the-art educational and research facility.
Nationally, private giving has become an essential component of a strong university funding base. While the Commonwealth of Virginia still provides ~32% of Virginia Tech’s yearly budget, state funding today is less than funding levels seven years ago. At the same time university enrollments continue to increase. State budget shortfalls have impacted all of Virginia Tech’s departments, including our own.
Private giving has become a critical conduit for maintaining and improving the excellence of our programs and facilities as evidenced by the significant private giving which made our new home in Goodwin Hall possible. Our continuing success as a department owes a debt of gratitude to our alumni and friends who give back through service to the department in the spirit of Ut Prosim, through giving, and through the hiring of our talented graduates. Your generous gifts allow us to enhance the educational experience and learning environment for our students, fund student scholarships, maintain the quality of our programs through support of our teaching mission, support our student organizations, support student travel, and a host of other uses. Thank you!
List below are three options for giving directly to the ChE department. Although gifts can be designated to any area of the university, your gift must be specifically designated for the ChE Department if you wish to support us directly. If you are interested in supporting Chemical Engineering for a purpose not covered by the suggested ones below, we would welcome a conversation with you. Contact our Department Head, David Cox, to setup a call or visit.
How Each Fund Helps
The annual fund provides immediate financial support for departmental initiatives and student-oriented programs. This fund supports our current efforts to enhance the educational experience and the learning environment for our students.
This new endowment fund generates an annual income for the department from investment of the principal by the Virginia Tech Foundation. It is an investment in the long-term financial health of the department and a future source of funds for new educational and research initiatives. Your gift will become a permanent part of the principal for this fund.
Graduating Seniors are encouraged to make your Senior Class Gift of $20.19 or more to commemorate your graduation year, and begin your legacy of alumni engagement and giving. When you make your gift, you earn a black and gray cord to be worn at graduation in recognition of your support for Virginia Tech and its traditions.
Graduation cords will be given out on the following days throughout the semester at the Holtzman Alumni Center:
